Mariquis Lawrence was a student of mine eleven years ago in Third Grade at Tennille Elementary School in Tennille, Georgia. When Mariquis moved to Fourth Grade, he found out that he had cancer. He fought the disease until December 2008 when he past away. Mariquis had the most wonderful spirit that I have ever seen. He was always the happiest kid I have ever known. I never saw Mariquis when he was not happy, even when he was sick. Mariquis taught me a lesson. "Take what life gives you and go with it no matter how it end." I will always remember Mariquis's beautiful smile and his life.
When Mariquis found out he was sick, I always wanted to do something for him and his family. It never worked out. My husband and I have recently become involved in 5K races for about a three years. With my interest in 5K races, I decide to have a 5K race in Tennille, Georgia in memory of Mariquis Lawrence where Mariquis lived. His family still lives there now.
The money that is raised will go to the American Cancer Society in his name.
